For the newest and final installment of the Gap’s “Meet Me in the Gap” fall campaign, the longstanding brand has gone the distance of bridging a wide span of musical generations by enlisting Future and Cher to be the face of the latest TV spot.
The ad is shot by veteran Director X (the visionary behind too many A-list videos to name) and finds the two unlikely collaborators Auto-Tuning up the Sly and the Family Stone classic, “Everyday People.”
Big shocker ahead but the Gap reports the two music legends had never met prior to the campaign.
“I love the idea of ‘Meet Me in the Gap’ because it’s easy to have common ground if you are really open and curious to people from different cultures,” said Cher via press release. “I didn’t know who Future was before this but I knew it would be so fun to work with someone who is completely unlike me, and who is young, really talented and striving.”
Future, who is currently enjoying a history-making year as the first artist to have two albums debut at No. 1 in successive weeks on the Billboard 200, also expressed his elation in working with the iconic vocalist.
“There was a great dynamic when working with Cher and we felt like we were doing something so much bigger than the two of us,” said Future. “Gap is not only bringing two cultures together but bringing everyone together through the music and the style. It’s really about everyday people.”
This year alone, Gap has featured the likes of Wiz Khalifa, TJ Mizell and Black-ish’s Yara Shahidi in their various campaigns.
“As a brand, our heritage is rooted in being a beacon of hope and optimism while also bringing people together,” Gap chief marketing officer Craig Brommers chimed in. “Uniting two superstars like Cher and Future proves that no matter how different we seem, there is always a common thread that we just might not have discovered yet.”
