Was it a concert, Performance or a legit fashion show? Depending on who you ask, the answers will fall nearly between the binary of those who considered the show cum extravaganza “genius” and the other side who would rather have it called a “spectacle” and nothing more. Kanye has facilely become the most polarizing figure in fashion today, provoking thoughts and disrupting whatever little order in place—this much, we cannot take away from him.
But while the rest of the world might still be in a Yezzy caused katzenjammer on whether to hate or applaud Kanye’s third attempt at being taken seriously as an actual designer, the question that begs for an answer is whether the plastic glove-like heeled booties that were fully on display at Yeezy Season 3 show is a rip-off of a similar Fall 2015 shoe by Dior’s Raf Simmon or just an egregious inspiration as he has in the past mentioned Raf Simmons as one of his inspiration in an exclusive interview with the defunct Style.com’s Dirk Standen;saying below
You guys know my fucking influences. I’ve got four influences and it’s written all over the face, you know the combination. Just as much as Drake is influenced by Kanye West, you know my fucking influences. You see Raf Simons right there, you see Helmut, you see Margiela, you see Vanessa [Beecroft], you see Katharine Hamnett. It’s blatantly right there. I’m not going to try and act like I was influenced by a fucking dog walking down the street that broke its ankle that I had a heartfelt discussion with.
Keeping this in mind—and the photo of Kanye‘s booties side-by-side those by Dior, would you say it is just a case of an inspiration or a proper rip-off—theKanye style?
