28-year-old NBC The Voice contestant, Anthony Riley, captivated America with his rich, soulful vocals. Unfortunately the world will no longer be able to experience his amazing live performances anymore, as he has passed away.
According to Washington Post, Riley was found dead in the basement of his Philadelphia home on Friday. He appeared to have committed suicide.
Riley left the show after his first battle round and returned to Philadelphia. But what many didn’t know is that he left to enter a rehabilitation facility to get help with his substance abuse issues. It was only in March that his exit and the reason why he left were made public. By that time, he had completed his treatment, which NBC reportedly paid for. He had also been working on a new album.
“For me it’s tough, because everyone’s just finding out and I’ve been moving forward…“‘The Voice’ has been a really great source of support. At the time, [being on the show] wasn’t working for me and I felt like I needed to go, instead of taking on more responsibility than I could handle,” he once said.
The music world will surely miss his voice and great spirit.
R.I.P Anthony.
